At sunrise, right after I took the image beside this one (Mist at Daybreak), I looked over my shoulder and saw a golden ball burning its way through the mist. I very quickly moved position (not easy among that dead bracken) and intended to be get the tree and the sun in one shot, before the sun totally broke through and got too strong. However as I was moving round the tree and I was "side on", I saw this colour in the mist! I quickly rolled off a few shots, not even getting time to move back and take a landscape version of the same, before the mist was burned off by the sun. So after 5 hours of sleep I headed up the the Lake District as I wanted to go up to Lingmoor Fell to capture the heather at sunrise. I arrived at 4.45am and was on the footpath up Side Pike in the dark, trying to get to the other side of the Pike to where I wanted to be, in good time. However on the way over, this amazing sky was developing over to the east - this was taken 16 minutes before sunrise. I just had to stop and capture it! A great morning and I had the fell all to myself. The name of the new engine is Tornado 60163. This is one of my interpretations of that majestic occasion, when the engine was pulling the carriages north up to Appleby this morning, the 16th Feb 2017. The rocks were incredibly slippery - like an ice rink! Great when they are dry but not when they have recently been submerged by the sea. This sea arch faces north so rarely has sunshine illuminating it. It was quite a broody, moody day when I visited in December, and that dark cloud on the horizon was full of rain which soon blew over to where I was stood.
